Traveling into the past. I’ve never read a biography on Mae West but it bet it has some good stories. Nice one, Leduc & Sum
Thank you, George. Your comment reassures me about my own plunge into the godslaugh.me archives, seeking material for a retrospective post in progress. I wasn’t sure that anyone but Yrs. truly would be interested in a “rear-view look ahead.” Thought I might be a fool to agree with Marshall McLuhan’s assertion that “we look at the present through a rear-view mirror, march backwards into the future.” I’m very grateful to you for looking back and renewing our acquaintance with a wonder of the world that makes chickadees flap and whistle. To paraphrase a snipped from her bio on Wikipedia: Dissatisfied with the supporting role she was to play in her debut movie, Maudie Triplett in Night After Night (1932) starring George Raft, Mae West rewrote her part in the script. Raft is reported to have said, “She stole everything but the cameras.” While George Raft got her that debut movie role when she was forty years old, she’s been ageless ever since.
Thank you, again, George, and please give my fond regards to the real world in Hollywood.
